Special Statement

Statement as of 1:24 PM AKDT on October 24, 2014

Expires 7:30 PM EDT on October 24, 2014

... A series of storms to impact Alaska West Coast through the
beginning of next week...

The first of two storms will move onshore Saturday morning
bringing periods of accumulating snow over the West Coast. This
storm will move inland and over the western interior Saturday
night into Sunday... spreading light snow over the area. One to
four inches of snow accumulation is expected... with four to six
inches possible in the upslope areas of the Nulato Hills and
western Brooks range. Warmer temperatures and the wet nature of
the snow will limit blowing snow.

The second and more potent storm will approach the West Coast
Sunday morning. Southwest winds will increase to 35 to 45 mph by
Sunday evening and then persist before diminishing late Tuesday morning.
Strong southwest winds will create high surf along the south and
west facing coasts especially along the Bering Strait coast. Storm
total snowfall of four to six inches is expected from the Seward
Peninsula north. South of the Seward Peninsula... snow may mix with
rain at times with one to four inches of storm total snowfall.
