The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a heat
advisory... which is in effect from 11 am this morning to 7 PM CDT
this evening. A heat advisory has also been issued from 11 am to
7 PM CDT Saturday.

* Heat index... climbing to 107 to 110 degrees or slightly higher for
most areas today and on Saturday.

* Impacts... excessive heat will lead to dangerous outside working
conditions today and on Saturday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will
combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air-conditioned room... stay out
of the sun... and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Children... the elderly... and people with chronic ailments are
usually the first to suffer from the heat. Heat exhaustion... cramps
or in extreme cases heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure to
these conditions.

Persons working or playing sports outdoors from late morning through
the afternoon are urged to drink plenty of water... taking frequent
breaks to prevent overheating. Refrain from the Intake of caffeinated
and alcoholic beverages. Remember to check on relatives and
neighbors... especially the elderly to make sure they have adequate
air conditioning.

... The potential for dangerous heat impacts continue across the
region through the weekend...

An upper level ridge of high pressure will strengthen over much of
the deep south through the weekend. This feature results in hot
temperatures across our local area through Sunday. High temperatures
will range from the lower to mid 90s near the coast to the upper
90s... possibly near 100 degrees over inland portions of the region.

Humid conditions will persist across the region through the weekend...
and heat index values are expected to range from 104 to 107 each
afternoon... though some locations may experience heat indices between
108 and 110 degrees Friday through Sunday. A heat advisory may become
necessary across portions of the region this weekend.

Children... the elderly... and people with chronic ailments are usually
the first to suffer from the heat. Heat exhaustion... cramps or in
