Areal Flood Watch

Statement as of 4:25 AM CST on February 24, 2018

Expires 1:00 AM EST on February 25, 2018

... Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of central Arkansas, north central Arkansas, and
western Arkansas, including the following areas, in central
Arkansas, Conway, Pope, and Yell. In north central Arkansas,
Baxter, Boone, Fulton, Izard, Marion, Newton, Searcy, sharp,
stone, and Van Buren. In western Arkansas, Johnson, Logan, and
Scott.

* Through this evening

* heavy rain fell across much of Arkansas the last several days, with
4 to locally more than 8 inches observed. Additional heavy rain
will be possible today into this evening, with 1 to 2 inches of
precipitation expected, and locally over three inches. The
highest totals should be from southwest through central and
northeast sections of the state, or from Mena to Morrilton and
Batesville.

* Given the recent heavy rainfall, the ground has become
saturated. As a result, the runoff potential has increased,
resulting in a high threat for flash and river flooding through
this evening. There have already been numerous high water
reports, including flooding of roads and Road closures. Any more
heavy rainfall may create additional dangerous flooding
situations.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
