Winter Storm Warning

... Winter Storm Warning in effect from 7 PM Sunday to 6 PM PST
Monday...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a
Winter Storm Warning for snow and blowing snow... which is in
effect from 7 PM Sunday to 6 PM PST Monday.

* Snow accumulations... 6 to 12 inches of snow above 6000 feet with
local accumulations to 18 inches. Accumulations below 6000 feet
are expected to less than 6 inches a dusting to around 1 inch
possible over the Grapevine on Interstate 5 Monday.

* Snow levels... over 8000 feet Sunday... lowering to between 4000
and 5000 late Sunday night into Monday morning through Monday
afternoon.

* Winds... south to southwest winds 25 to 40 mph with gusts to 60
are expected... strongest at higher elevations.

* Impact... heavy snow... gusty winds... low visibilities in blowing
snow and icy roads make for dangerous driving conditions. These
conditions could lead to Road closures and travel
delays... including Interstate 5 over the Grapevine. In
addition... extended exposure to cold and wind could be life-
threatening.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, check the latest
Road reports before departing. Keep an emergency kit in your
vehicle which includes a flashlight, food and water, extra
clothes and blankets, and tire chains.

Flash Flood Watch

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from Sunday afternoon through
Sunday evening...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for Los Angeles County

* from Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening

* periods of intense rain with rainfall rates as high as 1 to 1.5
inches per hour could generate flash flooding and or mud and
debris flows... especially in and around recent burn scars.

* Landslides and Rockslides are very common during intense rain
events and could lead to Road closures.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Flash flooding and debris flows will be a particular threat in
and below the recently burned areas.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

Southern California residents, in or below the recently burned
areas are urged to take the steps necessary to protect their
property. Persons in the watch area should remain alert and
follow directions of emergency preparedness officials.

High Wind Warning

... Wind Advisory is cancelled...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a
High Wind Warning... which is in effect from 4 am to 7 PM PST
Sunday. The Wind Advisory has been cancelled.

* Winds and timing... south winds 25 to 40 mph with gusts between
70 and 80 mph... strongest at higher elevations... will develop
later tonight and continue through Sunday.

* Impacts... gusty winds will make driving difficult... especially
for drivers of high profile vehicles. Major roadways that could
be affected include Interstate 5 and Highway 14 through the
Soledad Pass. Since the soils are wet... there is a heightened
potential for downed trees and power lines.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

When driving... use extra caution. Be prepared for sudden gusty
cross winds.

A High Wind Warning means that damaging high winds of 58 mph or
greater are likely or imminent. Secure all loose outdoor
furniture in advance of the onset of strong winds. Monitor the
latest forecasts on NOAA Weather Radio or your favorite media
source.






Small Craft Advisory, Gale Watch

Statement as of 9:18 AM PST on January 21, 2017

Expires 6:00 PM EST on January 22, 2017


... Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until 9 am PST Sunday...
... Gale watch remains in effect from Sunday morning through
Sunday afternoon...

* winds... south winds 20 to 30 kt with gusts to 40 kt are
possible when winds are strongest.

* Seas... combined seas of 11 to 14 feet with periods around 15
seconds are possible when waves are largest.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Small Craft Advisory means that hazardous sea conditions will
exist for small craft. Inexperienced mariners... especially those
operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these
conditions.

A gale watch is issued when hazardous gale force winds of 34 to
47 knots are probable in the near future... but the specific
timing and/or location is still uncertain. It is intended to
provide additional lead time for mariners who may wish to
consider altering their plans.
