Special Statement

Statement as of 3:56 PM MDT on March 26, 2017

Expires 8:00 AM EDT on March 27, 2017

... Early Spring storm to bring rain and snow to the region mid
week...

Computer simulations indicate a Spring storm will affect the
region this week. This storm will affect the area starting
Monday evening and last through Wednesday. This storm will likely
bring heavy wet snow to the mountains and beneficial widespread
rain to the lower elevations. The heaviest precipitation with this
storm will occur from late Tuesday evening and last into
Wednesday.

Travel will likely become hazardous in the mountains Tuesday night
into Wednesday. Travel along I-25 across Monument Hill and Raton
Mesa may also become difficult, especially Wednesday morning.

It will be blustery with this storm across the plains, as
northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected Tuesday night and
especially Wednesday.

Some thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday afternoon across the
eastern plains and mountains. At this time these storms are not
expected to be severe. However, if a thunderstorm should move
across one of the many burn scars across the area, then flash
flooding may develop.

Although computer simulations are in very good agreement that a
storm will track east over New Mexico, there is still uncertainty
on the storms exact track. If the storm moves east across central
New Mexico, then areas from Highway 50 southward would see the
most impacts. If the storm tracks east across northern New Mexico,
then all of the region will be impacted by this storm.

Please stay tuned for later forecast updates.
