The National Weather Service in Wichita, KS has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Cottonwood River near Florence.
* From this afternoon until Sunday morning.
* At 1:00 am Friday the stage was 4.1 feet and rising.
* Flood stage is 22.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by late this afternoon and
continue to rise to near 24.9 feet by early Saturday morning. The
river will fall below flood stage by Saturday evening.
* Impact... at 24.0 feet... outside the levee system in southeast
Florence, flood waters flow across park Ave Road and reach the
foundation of a residential home.

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
Chase County in east central Kansas...
Marion County in central Kansas...

* until 845 am CDT Friday

* at 838 PM CDT... Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain which will cause flooding. Up to three inches of rain
has already fallen with additional heavy rainfall expected
overnight.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Hillsboro... Marion... Peabody... Cottonwood Falls... Strong City...
Florence... Goessel... Burns... Lincolnville... Ramona... Lehigh...
Durham... Tampa... bazaar... Lost Springs... Elmdale...
Matfield Green... Cedar Point... Saffordville and Wonsevu.

This includes Interstate 35 between mile markers 97 and 115.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Chase... Ellsworth... Lincoln... Marion... McPherson... Rice...
Russell and Saline. In south central Kansas... Butler...
Harvey... Kingman... Reno and Sedgwick.

* Through Saturday morning.

* Soils are already saturated from recent rainfall over the past
several days with additional chances for thunderstorms expected
through tonight. Any additional rain may exacerbate ongoing
flooding concerns or lead to additional flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Remember to turn around... don't drown.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
