Areal Flood Warning

The National Weather Service in St Louis has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
Randolph County in southwestern Illinois...
Crawford County in east central Missouri...
Iron County in southeastern Missouri...
Ste. Genevieve County in southeastern Missouri...
Reynolds County in southeastern Missouri...
Madison County in southeastern Missouri...
Washington County in east central Missouri...
St. Francois County in southeastern Missouri...

* until 445 am CDT Monday.

* At 438 PM CDT, law enforcement and the department of transporation
were reporting flooding across the area. This flooding is the
result of runoff from 4 to 8 inches of rainfall that has fallen
since late Friday. Flooding will continue on area creeks, streams,
poor drainage areas, and roads which are often subject to minor
flooding.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Farmington, Chester, Sullivan, Bonne Terre, Desloge, Ste.
Genevieve, Sparta, Fredericktown, Red Bud, Cuba, Potosi,
Steelville, Bourbon, Bismarck, Ironton, Leadwood, Anthonies Mill,
Bremen, Park Hills and Reynolds.

This also includes Washington State Park, St. Joe State Park, St.
Francois State Park, Onondaga cave State Park, Johnsons shut-ins
State Park, Hawn State Park, fort Davidson historic site, Felix Valle
house State Park, Elephant Rocks State Park, Taum Sauk Mountain State
Park, Missouri mines historic site, and Clearwater Lake recreational
area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Meramec river near Sullivan
* until Friday afternoon.
* At 1:30 PM Sunday the stage was 31.8 feet.
* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Record flooding is forecast.
* The river is forecast to crest near 36.6 feet by tomorrow morning,
then fall below flood stage Thursday early afternoon.
* Impact: at 29.0 feet... the main office at the Arapaho campground
begins flooding.
* Impact: at 28.0 feet... Springer Road off of Sappington bridge Road
begins flooding near this height.
* Impact: at 25.0 feet... Sappington bridge boat access parking area
and restroom begins flooding near this height.
* Impact: at 22.0 feet... near this height, Missouri Route W will be
closed in both directions beyond Route jj.
* Impact: at 21.0 feet... Sappington bridge Road just north of the
Meramec River Bridge begins flooding near this height.
* Impact: at 18.5 feet... near this height, Missouri Route N will be
closed in both directions.
* Impact: at 17.3 feet... the Onondaga cave State Park picnic shelter
begins flooding near this height.
* Impact: at 17.0 feet... at this height the entire Arapaho campground
will be under water.
* Impact: at 15.6 feet... the basic loop of the Onondaga cave State
Park campground begins flooding near this height.
* Impact: at 14.5 feet... at this height the Arapaho campground will
evacuate campers. This campground is about 8.5 river miles
downstream from the gage. About 14.3 miles upstream of the gage...
cave Road access to Ozark outdoors begins flooding near this
height.
* Impact: at 14.0 feet... the main entrance Road to the Meramec State
Park campground begins flooding... blocking acess to Cabins 1-8...
the picnic and playground areas, and The Wilderness trailhead
parking lot. At Onondaga cave State Park... the primary entrance to
the campground is closed and the secondary entrance is used near
this height.
* Impact: at 13.5 feet... cave Road begins flooding at Onondaga cave
State Park near this height.
* Impact: at 12.0 feet... the main entrance gate at Onondaga cave
State Park begins flooding near this height. This may eventually
force the park to use the rear entrance as the primary entrance to
the park.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Meramec river near Steelville
* until Thursday afternoon.
* At 1:30 PM Sunday the stage was 28.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
* Record flooding is forecast.
* The river is forecast to crest near 29.4 feet by after midnight
tonight, then fall below flood stage Wednesday early afternoon.
* Impact: at 27.0 feet... the front porch of the office at lucky
Clover campgrounds begins flooding.
* Impact: at 25.8 feet... hotel rooms at Ozark outdoors off Highway h
(cave road) begin to flood. If inflow from the Huzzah is low... it
will take a higher stage at Steelville to flood these rooms.
* Impact: at 25.4 feet... water reaches the base of the Railroad
bridge at the gauging site.
* Impact: at 24.0 feet... the store and the pool at the rafting
company just south of the Highway 19 bridge begins to flood.
* Impact: at 23.0 feet... water begins flooding the cottages at the
rafting company campgrounds near this height.
* Impact: at 22.0 feet... at lucky Clover campgrounds... the Pavilion
is flooded and the campgrounds are evacuated and closed.
* Impact: at 21.0 feet... water begins flooding the Lodge rooms at the
rafting company near this height. Water begins backing into the
natural entrance of Onondaga cave near this height. However... if
the inflow from the Huzzah is low... it will take a higher
Steelville stage to flood the cave.
* Impact: at 20.0 feet... a levee along the left bank upsstream of the
Highway 19 bridge is overtopped near this height, flooding the
campgrounds at lucky Clover resort.

drainage areas... and dangerous flash flooding on smaller creeks
and streams. Moderate to major flooding is either occurring or
forecast on larger streams and rivers.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch is advanced notice that conditions are
favorable that may lead to flash flooding. People in the watch
area, especially in flood prone areas, should use this time to
make preparations just in case. Stay informed, and be ready for
quick action if flooding is observed or if a Flash Flood Warning
is issued.
