The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
Cherokee County in southeast Kansas...
Crawford County in southeast Kansas...
western Barton County in southwest Missouri...
western Jasper County in southwest Missouri...

* until 900 am CDT.

* At 518 am CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
areas of heavy rain producing thunderstorms over parts of the
area. Rainfall rates of over an inch per hour are occurring.
Additional storms from northeast Oklahoma will move into the
area over the next hour with additional periods of heavy rainfall.

* Runoff from this heavy rainfall will cause minor flooding.

Arcadia... Arma... Carl Junction... Carona... Carterville... Cherokee...
Columbus... Duenweg... Duquesne... Englevale... Frontenac... Galena...
Girard... Iron Gates... Joplin... Liberal... McCune... Mindenmines...
Mulberry... Oronogo... Pittsburg... prairie State Park... Purcell...
Scammon... Verdella... Walnut... Webb City... Weir and West Mineral.
Creeks... streams and low water crossings will be especially
susceptible to the dangers of flooding.

Poor drainage areas and urbanized areas with poor drainage can
anticipate brief flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on
small creeks and streams... and ponding of water in urban areas...
highways... streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage
areas and low lying spots.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southeast Kansas and Missouri... including the
following areas... in southeast Kansas... Bourbon... Cherokee
and Crawford. In Missouri... Barton... Benton... Camden...
Cedar... Dade... Dallas... Hickory... Jasper... Laclede... Maries...
Miller... Morgan... Phelps... Polk... Pulaski... St. Clair and
Vernon.

* Through this evening

* two to five inches of rain is forecast within the Flash Flood
Watch area. Thunderstorms capable of producing excessive
rainfall are expected to train across portions of southeast
Kansas and the Missouri Ozarks tonight... with additional
storms expected during the day Thursday.

* Flash flooding risks are increasing over portions of southeast
Kansas and the Missouri Ozarks through today. Flooding in this
region typically consists of small streams and creeks flooding
low lying areas... including low water crossing and actual
roadways.

Anyone that has interests within the Osage... Little Osage...
SAC... Marmaton... Pomme de Terre... and Niangua river basins...
should monitor future warnings and statements today.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
