* at 11:15 PM Saturday the stage was 20.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 21.0 feet.
* Major flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by after midnight this morning
and continue to rise to near 34.2 feet by around midnight. The
river will fall below flood stage by Tuesday morning.
* Impact... at 34.5 feet... this is the crest reached on December 3,
1982.

* at 1155 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Doppler radar indicated
thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area.
Generally 4 to 8 inches of rain has fallen with locally higher
amounts. Ongoing flash flooding is expected to continue through
the overnight and into Sunday morning.

* Creeks, streams, and low water crossings will be especially
susceptible to the dangers of flash flooding.

ongoing flooding issues.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southeast Kansas and Missouri, including the
following areas, in southeast Kansas, Bourbon, Cherokee, and
Crawford. In Missouri, Barry, Barton, Benton, Camden, Cedar,
Christian, Dade, Dallas, Dent, Douglas, Greene, Hickory,
Howell, Jasper, Laclede, Lawrence, Maries, McDonald, Miller,
Morgan, Newton, Oregon, Ozark, Phelps, Polk, Pulaski, Shannon,
St. Clair, stone, Taney, Texas, Vernon, Webster, and Wright.

* Through Sunday evening

* periods of showers and thunderstorms producing torrential
rainfall will occur today through Sunday. An additional 2 to 4
inches of rainfall will be possible through Sunday on top of the
heavy flooding rainfall that has already occurred over the past
24 hours.


* With soils already saturated as well as streams and rivers
running high, significant flooding will continue. Flooding of
streams, rivers, and low water crossings could last for
several days after the rain ends. Areas that don't normally
flood could flood in this event. Many rivers are expected to
go into moderate to major flood... with some breaking records.

Some main Stem rivers that will experience significant rises and
potential flooding include the Elk, Spring, James, Big Piney,
Gasconade, Jacks Fork, current, eleven point, Osage, and
Marmaton. Some river points may reach moderate or major flood
stage.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
