* Flood Warning for...
Knox County in eastern Tennessee...
Anderson County in eastern Tennessee...
Blount County in eastern Tennessee...
Jefferson County in eastern Tennessee...
Cocke County in eastern Tennessee...
Grainger County in eastern Tennessee...
Sevier County in eastern Tennessee...
Hamblen County in eastern Tennessee...

* until 645 PM EDT Sunday

* at 1243 PM EDT, emergency management reported flooding in many
locations across the warning area. Some secondary roads have been
closed due to flooding and small creeks and streams are out of
their banks. Between 2 to 3 inches of rain has fallen over the
last 24 hours, with localized amounts up to 4 inches. An
additional 1 to 2 inches is possible over the next 6 hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Morristown, Maryville, Sevierville, Clinton,
Alcoa, Jefferson City, Newport, Gatlinburg, Dandridge, Rutledge,
Farragut, Pigeon Forge, Oliver Springs, Bean Station, Louisville,
White Pine, Plainview and New Market.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.

rain has fallen over the last 24 hours, with localized amounts up
to 4 inches. An additional 1 to 2 inches is possible over the next
6 hours.

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of east Tennessee and southwest Virginia, including
the following areas, in east Tennessee, Cocke Smoky Mountains,
Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, north Sevier,
northwest Carter, northwest Cocke, northwest Greene, Sevier
Smoky Mountains, southeast Carter, southeast Greene, Sullivan,
Unicoi, and Washington TN. In southwest Virginia, Lee,
Russell, Scott, Washington, and wise.

* Through late tonight

* one to three inches of rainfall will be common across much of
the area through today and tonight with localized amounts in
excess of 4 inches possible.

* The persistent rainfall will fall on already saturated ground
across much of the area. The additional heavy rains could lead
to flooding of roadways, poor drainage areas, low lying areas
and small rivers and streams across the region. Mud slides are
possible, especially across the burn scar areas of Sevier
County, Tennessee.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take quick
action if flooding is observed or a Flash Flood Warning is
issued. If you come to a closed or flooded Road... turn around!
